The over 700-strong members of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) are still in high spirits as frontliners in maintaining law and order, and securing the borders of the city in the fight against the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
BCPO City Director Police Col. Allen Rae F. Co reported that despite the enormous job assigned to them during this pandemic, the police and force multipliers remain focused in discharging their duties and responsibilities in the strict implementation of the prescribed community quarantine guidelines in the city to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
He admitted that frontliners, including law enforcers, are obviously tired after having been involved in the strictly implementing the community quarantine rules since March, but they are still dedicated and passionate in performing their assigned duties and responsibilities in securing the safety of the residents from being exposed to the possibility of contracting the illness.
The police official disclosed the BCPO, in close coordination with force multipliers, is currently maintaining at least 10 major checkpoints on a 24-hour basis which shows the evident passion and the sincerity of the frontliners to serve the greater interest of the people, especially in reducing the venues the virus may be contracted by people who are going out of their homes for their essential needs.

The BCPO chief claimed that aside from the 10 major checkpoints, law enforcers are also assisting the different barangays in the implementation of barangay checkpoints in strategic areas around the city and in the manning of lockdowns as ordered by the city government.
According to him, law enforcers are grateful to the residents because of their utmost cooperation in observing the stringent community quarantine rules as this makes their job lighter for them to focus on other more pressing law and order issues and concerns that arise in their areas of jurisdiction.
He said that by staying at home if they have nothing essential to do outside their residences, people are contributing in efforts to reduce the burden on frontliners in the strict implementation of prevailing community quarantine rules and avoiding contracting the virus.
He called on motorists passing through the city’s border checkpoints to be patient in dealing with the delays in passing through the quarantine control points, especially if they have incomplete documentary requirements, because law enforcers managing the same are simply discharging their assigned duties and responsibilities to check the purposes in entering the city pursuant to established rules and regulations.
The BCPO officer cited that the present system in monitoring the entry of people in the city is not perfect and efforts are being done to adjust to the situation to conform with the realities on the ground and prevent delays in the travel of people wanting to enter the city for essential transactions in Baguio as one of the major urban centers in the north where most regional line agencies hold office.
