ITOGON, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap committed to source out some P100 million from the public works department under the P4.5 trillion 2021 annual budget to fund the construction of various school buildings in the different parts of the province to help bring education closer to the people, especially for pupils and students coming from remote villages.
Yap, who chairs the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, said that despite the implementation of the blended learning by the education department, it is still important to pursue the construction of additional school buildings in the different schools located in strategic areas to accommodate the possible increase in enrolment in the said remote villages once face-to-face learning will be implemented in the country’s education system.
The lawmaker was the guest of honor and speaker during the ground breaking of the P17 million construction of the 2-storey 6-classroom building of the Midas Elementary School at Sitio Midas, Barangay Ucab last Thursday.

Congressman Yap also commended the school officials and the teachers for their patience, dedication and sincerity to continue embracing the teaching profession, one of the most noble professions in the world, because they are laying the foundation of the youth who want to acquire higher levels of education.
He added he made the necessary representations with the concerned government agencies to ensure the availability of the funds for the school buildings for areas in need to be identified in close coordination with the education department and the concerned local governments.
According to him, he will continue to make the appropriate representations with the education department for funds for the construction of school buildings in the different parts of the province needing said structures to entice more pupils and students to enroll in the public schools and to make the schools accessible to the beneficiaries coming from far flung communities who have to walk for several hours just to reach the nearest school.
Congressman Yap underscored that the youth should not be deprived of access to education and he is working hard to impress to the education department that Benguet should be one of the priority areas where school buildings should be constructed even in the remotest villages for them to be able to complete their basic education before aspiring to achieve a higher level of education and become productive citizens of their respective villages.
He agreed to the contention of many older people that education is still the best inheritance parents and guardians could give their children because it could not be easily taken away from them, aside from the fact that a well-educated individual could become a productive citizen is the educational attainment is used for the betterment of himself, his family and the community.
Yap claimed that he is doing exactly that by being a dedicated and passionate public servant of Benguet as its caretaker congressman.
