BONTOC, Mountain Province – The municipal government turned over a lot to the Department of Education (DepEd) where the Talubin Elementary School (ES) is located.
In his opening message, Talubin ES Principal Maurice Baniswal remarked that March 22, 2022, is a historical day for Talubin ES-Doddo Campus as the DepEd now claims ownership of the lot.
Bontoc Mayor Franklin Odsey narrated that the lot and the structure which is being used as Talubin ES is historical as it served as the municipal office during the Spanish period as evidenced by still intact Spanish bricks.
The mayor said that one of the priority programs of his administration which is anchored of his vision “Bontoc on The Rise” is support to the education sector. A public teacher for years before entering politics, Odsey recognized the need for a conducive learning space for learners/students. He expressed high hopes that with the turnover of the municipal lot where Talubin ES- Doddo Campus stands, the DepEd can now fully utilize it for education purposes.
He added that DepEd will no longer be a caretaker of the lot and structure, but as the owner. With this, he encouraged the recipients to be responsible stewards in using the facilities of the school and the lot for them to ensure that these shall last for the succeeding generations of learners to also enjoy.
“Structures will have significance if you, the students, give life to its existence. This is by doing your best in your studies and being responsible individuals in the community. It is with high hopes that the turnover of the lot to the DepEd will inspire the students to do their best and bring honor to their school and the community,” the mayor mentioned in a separate interview.
Vice Mayor Eusebio encouraged the recipients to take good care of the lot and the structure. Likewise, he thanked everyone for the successful turnover ceremony.
In response, Engineer Domingo Banglo, Jr., who represented Schools Division Superintendent Sally Ullalim expressed the gratitude of the DepEd to the clan that donated the lot to the Bontoc LGU and the municipal government for transferring the rights of ownership to the DepEd- Talubin ES.
Banglo and Baniswal received the legal documents from Mayor Odsey and was witnessed by Vice Mayor Kabluyen, municipal elective officials, barangay officials, DepEd SDO personnel representatives, teachers, school stakeholders, parents, and young learners.
