LUNA, Apayao – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Friday said Apayao business establishments comply with the suggested retail price (SRP) of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs).
Based on the monitoring assessment conducted by the agency through its Consumer Protection Division, this January 2024, DTI’s report showed that prices and supply of BNPCs remain stable for the municipalities of Flora, Santa Marcela, Luna, Pudtol and Conner.
DTI Apayao Provincial Director Wena Buston conveyed that the price and supply situation of BNPCs such as manufactured goods, agricultural products, medicines, fuels, construction materials, electrical supplies, personal care products, and among others are being monitored to assure the public that the government is taking action to protect consumer interest and ensure that basic and prime goods remain reasonably priced in the market.
The DTI also stated that this intensified monitoring efforts will offset the impacts of inflation and prevent hoarding, profiteering, and price manipulation while safeguarding pricing stability and supply availability throughout the province.
“Such endeavor was aligned with the government’s integrated approaches to help address food security challenges, by ensuring the affordability of BNPCs to all yApayao consumers,” the agency added.
Additionally, Republic Act No. 7581, as amended by RA 10623, or the Price Act, mandates DTI and other implementing agencies, such as the Department of Agriculture, Department of Health, Department of National and Natural Resources, and the Department of Energy, to ensure the availability and affordability of BCPSs at reasonable prices at all times, without denying legitimate businesses a fair return on investment.
