TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In recognition of the vital contributions of cooperatives to the economic development of the province, members from all cooperatives in Kalinga gathered today at the Capitol grounds to kick off the National Cooperative Month.
Spearheaded by the provincial and city cooperative and enterprise development offices (PCEDO and CCEDO), the event commenced with a motorcade and a formal program.
In a message from Governor James Edduba, delivered by Provincial Legal Officer Atty. John Paul Baguiwan, underscored the critical role of cooperatives in assisting the community in enhancing people’s livelihoods and quality of life through their various programs, which also serves as a vital resource during emergency situations.
He also highlighted the significant role cooperatives play in fostering economic prosperity within the province.
Meanwhile, Felicidad Cenon, Assistant Regional Director of the Cordillera office of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA-CAR), graced the event and announced that three entries from Kalinga specifically, PCEDO, CCEDO, and Kalinga OFW Cooperative have qualified for the prestigious National Gawad Parangal at PICC, Pasay, on October 13.
According to Cenon, the award recognizes their exemplary performance and commitment to providing responsive services to the community. She added that they will also receive recognition at the Regional Cooperative Month Celebration in Bontoc, Mt. Province, from October 26 to 28.
The month-long celebration features a lineup of activities throughout October, including tree planting in Malalao, a regional trade fair, the regional Cooperative Month Celebration in Bontoc, Mt. Province, and a culminating awarding ceremony. By Ruth Cupang
