TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Some 20 members of the Nambucayan Matagaoan Farmers Association (NMFA) received farm equipment and fruit bearing trees from the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program of the Department of Agriculture (DA)-CAR today, August 12, 2020.
During the turn over ceremony held by the Office of the City Agricultural Services (OCAS), each member was given 10 rambutan and 10 lanzones seedlings and various farm equipment such as rake, grass cutter, stainless sprayer, shovel, pruning sheers, crates, grub hoe and crowbar.
Jay Vee Andrada of the OCAS said that the beneficiaries, aside from growing fruit-bearing trees, are also engages in corn and palay production.
He said the beneficiaries were among those validated as poorest of the poor in the barangay and are registered under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA), an electronic compilation or database of basic information of farmers, farm laborers, fishermen and target beneficiaries of agriculture-related programs and services of the government such as Department of Agriculture-accredited farmer organizations.

NMFA president Enrique Ambasing appealed to the farmers to care for said seedlings to ensure their productivity. Producing fruits, he said would not only help in ensuring food sufficiency, but could also help boost income of their families.
Barangay Captain Ruben Ambasing, in his message, expressed gratitude that through the partnership with DA-CAR, not only rice and corn seeds are being provided but also other crops, such as fruits, to the local farmers in Nambucayan to increase their production.
He also lauded the OCAS for its support and for providing assistance whenever needed.
Aida Malaggan, one of the beneficiaries who owns a half hectare of farm land dedicated in the production of variety of fruits and other crops thanked the OCAS and DA-CAR for helping them improve their livelihood.
