TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Concerned sectors in this city questioned the real motive of the critics of the present administration of Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero as they are now desperately trying to look for allies in different government offices to ventilate issues on alleged overpriced purchases during the implementation of the community quarantine.
Sources, who requested anonymity for personal reasons, claimed the mayor’s critics continue to harp at every transaction being entered by the city government with a common premise of being allegedly overpriced when no less than President Rodrigo Duterte came out with a public pronouncement for health officials to pursue their intended transactions even if the same would be expensive just to save the innocent lives of Filipinos.
The sources claimed an indication that the critics of the present administration are desperate is that they have resorted to forum shopping by filing a series of similar complaints in different avenues.
In a news posted on GMA online, President Duterte recently took up the cudgels for Health Secretary Francisco Duque III over the health department’s alleged overpriced procurement of equipment for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) testing.

“I gave him (Duque) the instruction and I admit it in public now. Sabi ko sa kanya, do everything you can. I do not care of its expensive. Go, just go ahead and do something about it kasi ipitan tayo dito,” Duterte said in a televised briefing.
Earlier, some individuals in the city raised an uproar on the alleged overpriced purchase of thermal scanners and relief goods by the city government at the height of the implementation of the Luzonwide enhanced community quarantine.
However, sources argued that the complainants are obviously on a ‘witch hunting’ exposition as they are now resorting to raising issues on alleged overpriced purchases when the Commission on Audit (COA) has not yet issued a verdict on whether previous transactions entered by the city are allegedly overpriced.
According to the source, the mayor’s critics are now trying to project a bad image of his administration but most people are fully aware of the kind of politicians and individuals these critics are, thus, the mayor’s supporters are simply ignoring such moves as local officials simply perform their duties and responsibilities to serve the greater interest of the majority of the city’s populace.
The sources admitted there is really a grand design by the critics of the present administration to topple the current city’s leadership as some personalities are eagerly wanting to rule the city despite having already passed their prime, saying it is also the time of young and dynamic leaders to share their talents, skills and knowledge in trying to move the city to greater heights even with the wrath of the global pandemic.
The sectors urged the city’s leaders to continue doing what they think is right to advance the sustainable growth and development of the urban center and not to be disrupted by the desperate acts of selfish politicians out to ruin the gains of the present administration in working for the overall development of the city.
