TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The City is among the Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence awardees conferred by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) during the Cordillera Gawad Kalasag 2023 Regional Awarding Ceremony on December 18, 2023, at the M Hotel, Tabuk City.
This is the first time after 23 years that the Gawad Kalasag award was held outside of Baguio City.
The award was given to the city government for being FULLY COMPLIANT and garnering a rating of 2.05 in the 23rd Gawad KALASAG Seal for Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and Offices (LDRRMCOs) Category for calendar year 2023.
Cited by the NDRRMC, the city government was found to be generally adherent to the standards for the establishment and functionality of the LDRRMCOs as prescribed in the Philippines Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010 or Republic Act No. 10121.
CDDRMO Head Jeremias Ammakiw received the award, representing Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero and Acting Mayor Dick G. Bal-o.
Other fully compliant local governments in the province are the municipalities of Balbalan represented by Hon. Almar Malannag, Lubuagan represented by Hon. Joel “Jetok” Tagaotao, Pasil represented by Hon. Alfred “Chao-ig” Malannag, Jr., Rizal, and Tinglayan, both represented by their respective MDRRMOs.
NDRRMC Executive Director USEC. Ariel F. Nepomuceno, represented by Service Director of the OCD Rehabilitation and Recovery Management Service, Harold Cabreros and OCD-CAR Director Albert, graced the awarding, hosted by the city government led by Governor James S. Edduba, Vice Governor Jocel C. Baac and attended by different local governments with their local chief executives, institutions under the Department of Education-Cordillera Administrative Region and other institutions in the Cordillera Region.
