BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) held an orientation for the 141 beneficiaries of DOLE’s “Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD)” Program at the Municipal Capitol Auditorium on March 11, 2024.
Sangguniang Bayan member Dan Evert Sokoken who represented Mayor Jerome “Chagsen ” Tudlong, Jr., highlighted the importance of collaboration between different government agencies and the people towards community development. He thanked the DOLE for its unwavering support and commitment to the community’s betterment.
Mayor Tudlong who has to attend an equally important event in a phone interview remarked that the Bontoc LGU shall continue to request for either funding or inclusion of the municipality for any national government programs such as the TUPAD. It is to be noted that this batch of TUPAD beneficiaries is funded by the DOLE in response to Mayor Tudlong’s request.
“When the government and the community work hand in hand, incredible transformations take place, leading to a more resilient and prosperous society. This TUPAD Program is of great help in providing short-term employment to displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers to help sustain their basic needs,” the mayor added.
The TUPAD workers will be deployed in their respective barangays for 15 days at a wage of P430.00 per day or a total of P6, 450.00. They will be deployed in their respective barangays and schools. Thus, they will be under the supervision of barangay officials or the school head.
Also, present during the orientation were Caria Big-asan from the DOLE-Field Office, TUPAD Coordinators, and some barangay officials. By Alpine L. Killa-Malwagay
